Chilean education problems lie son the neo-liberal economic experiment that the country has been
experiencing during the last 30 years. It’s
about how the capital, its acumulation
and production has turned into the corner Stone of every social aspect that was
before a mater of state. Therefore, the
whole system Works as a big fence that stops anyone who tries to make a change
pushing towards a social rather than a economic direction. By this system, we
are only educated to produce, consume and die. A father does not educate his
son, he pays others to do the job, he
pays for a service, a standarization of something far more complex than a
product. And thas what schools or
universities produce: A product, a student or a profesional that by a chart, is
suposed to be capable of doing certain kind of stuff.
Free education wasn’t a fairy tale back on the fifties in
chile, since most of our father or
grandfathers were able to get profesional by this path.
I would like to say, that the problem goes far more tan only education. The current system it is not but a way on which the wealthiest families, the oligarquic ones that instigated most of the changes during the militar goverment, have consolidated their dominion in áreas such as banking, rents, insurances, loan, credits, AFP’s, public health system, etc. Seizing the way we live for their own profits. In this way, 2011 was a year where we started to make vox populi this situation, and even more, we could put this into the streets, taking the public spaces as our own way of expresión againts this dominion, and not only through parlament or never ending comissions or proyects. It’s about how chilean society started to create a conscience.
